Guiteras is back, but not the power: Why are the blackouts still the same?, Cubans criticize.

Yesterday, 24-hour service was affected and remained disrupted throughout the night. The peak impact yesterday was 1619 MW at 22:20 p.m., coinciding with peak demand. 

Energy production from the 12 new photovoltaic solar parks was 1494.83 MWh. SEN availability at 07:00 a.m. was 1970 MW, demand 2900 MW, with 1000 MW affected by capacity shortages. During the mid-term hours, a deficit of 1200 MW is estimated. 

Unit 5 of the Nuevitas Power Plant and Unit 2 of the Felton Power Plant are out of service. Units 2 and 3 of the Santa Cruz Power Plant, Unit 4 of the Cienfuegos Power Plant, and Unit 5 of the Renté Power Plant are undergoing maintenance. Thermal generation is limited to 353 MW. 

Out of service due to fuel

62 distributed generation plants with 441 MW are out of service due to fuel, in addition 86 MW are affected due to a lack of oil in distributed generation motors and 60 MW in the Melones truck, totaling 487 MW affected.

The entry of the CTE Nuevitas unit is estimated at 70 MW.

With this forecast, peak availability is estimated at 1935 MW and maximum demand at 3450 MW, resulting in a deficit of 1515 MW. Therefore, if expected conditions persist, a 1585 MW impact is forecast during this time.

Opinions of Cubans

Cubans, fed up with the energy situation, take it with the UNE on social media. “The numbers don't lie. Any thermoelectric plant comes in and shuts down the fuel or diesel engines, or both. It's a vicious circle. The slogan of the UNE "It is to affect the people, not to diminish their torture," wrote user AL

"Gentlemen, looking at the numbers between solar and thermal, there's a capacity of 3.430 MW. And why so many hours without power? There's a lie there. Explain that clearly," AP noted.

Along the same lines, AC stated: "Yesterday there was the same deficit, and Guiteras wasn't there. They said, 'If Guiteras comes in, he'll contribute almost 250.' And he did. So why isn't the deficit going down?"
