Description
Tree up to 15 m tall with velvety-tomentose foliage. The leaves are petiolate, suborbicular, heart-shaped at the base, and the apex abruptly pointed. Showy, terminal, solitary flowers; the corolla has 5 petals ranging in color from pink to yellow to red. The fruit is a capsular, globose, hairy, 3 cm long, and dehiscent. The seeds are slightly tomentose.
Phenology
Seeds germinate 8 to 15 days after sowing. Germination without prior treatment is usually no more than 40 to 45%.

Native of Cuba and Jamaica.
Location
Frequently found in humid areas of semi-deciduous forests, sometimes in rainforests and mountain rainforests, and on fertile soils. Cultivated.

Collection method
Pick the fallen flowers or pick them directly from the plant in the morning. Rinse them with hard water and dry them with artificial heat at no more than 40 degrees C.
