The Banana: benefits, uses and properties

Rich in potassium, the plantain is undoubtedly the quintessential fruit for Cubans. It's the ideal complement to any meal, from the little ones who eat it with their mashed potatoes to our grandparents. This fruit is easily accessible and available practically all year round.

The plantain, also known as the banana, is rich in vitamins A, C, B6, calcium, iron, and magnesium. Per 100g, it contains 89 calories.

Description
A robust, isthmus-like herb growing to 10 m tall. Its leaves are strong and well-developed, with sheathing petioles forming the false aerial stem. The leaf blade is 1 to 2 m long and 35 to 60 cm wide, splitting into strips perpendicular to the central axis. The flowers are unisexual, arranged in semi-whorls on a robust, pendulous axis growing to 1 m tall; the lower flowers are female, the upper ones male. The fruit is fleshy.

India. Currently cultivated in tropical countries around the world.

No proven therapeutic effects.

Anti-asthmatic, anti-ulcer, anti-tuberculosis, and anti-cancer. It is used to treat hemoptysis and burns (it facilitates regranulation and re-epithelialization).
