Recommendations for importing televisions to Cuba

There are many questions regarding the importation of televisions to Cuba. Televisions are one of the most frequently imported durable equipment items for passengers entering the island.
Therefore, we offer you some very useful recommendations in this regard.The first thing you should know is that only two televisions are allowed to be imported into Cuba. The second is that they can be of any type or size.

Regarding this issue, however, the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba does warn all passengers that if a commercial nature is detected in the import at the time of customs clearance, the equipment will be confiscated, in accordance with the law.

To determine whether the product has a commercial nature, the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba takes into account the nature, functions, or repeated importation of the product, in this case, televisions. Only the traveler's personal belongings are generally excluded from this confiscation.

1. Television imports are not limited by size (number of inches the screen measures) or technology (CRT, LCD, plasma, LED, etc.). They only need to be domestic televisions. As long as they are, they can be any size and include 3D.
2. When weight valuation is used, the 25 kg considered as passengers' personal effects are only clothing and miscellaneous items and do not include household appliances, except for those considered personal effects.
3. Televisions, like all household appliances, are valued separately from miscellaneous items. Therefore, they cannot be included in the weight valuation. Televisions are not weighed at Customs.
4.In accordance with Resolution 206-2014 of the Head of the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba, the limit on the importation of a total of two televisions of any type and size).
5.In accordance with Resolution 207-2014 of the Head of the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba, the Customs value of televisions When using this valuation option, it is as follows:

Conventional television (CRT or cathode ray tube televisions) = 70.00 pesos
Flat screen televisions up to 32 inches = 250.00 pesos
Flat screen televisions from 32 inches up to 42 inches = 400.00
Flat screen televisions over 42 inches = 500.00

For both Cuban passengers and foreigners permanently residing in the national territory, payments will be made in Cuban pesos (CUP) on the first import in each calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

Importation is considered the entry into the country of articles and products that are not personal effects, or that are free of payment of Customs duties.
In a second entry to Cuba in the same calendar year, payment for the import of this equipment will be made in Convertible Currency (CUC).
