With President Trump's decision, the United States has formally entered the war. Iran announces "lasting retaliation."
A series of airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities marks a new turning point in the Middle East. Iran responded with missiles targeting Israeli territory and warned of retaliation.
Iran accuses Washington of crossing a red line
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the US bombing of three strategic Iranian facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—as “a grave violation of international law and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.” He stated that Tehran reserves “all options” to respond to what it considers an act of aggression.
Although Iranian authorities maintain there were no casualties and that the damage did not affect the integrity of the nuclear program, Araghchi warned that the effects of the attack "will be long-lasting" and held the United States directly responsible for an escalation that jeopardizes the stability of the entire region.
Iranian missiles hit Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities
In retaliation for the attacks, Iran launched a new barrage of missiles against Israel. One of them hit a building in Tel Aviv, causing severe material damage. According to emergency responders, at least 30 people were injured, including a XNUMX-year-old man with shrapnel injuries.
Other missiles hit Haifa, where several buildings were destroyed, and areas in the center of the country. In response, Israeli authorities ordered the complete closure of schools, offices, and public activities. Air raid sirens were activated in Jerusalem and central Israel, but failed to operate in Haifa, preventing the population from being alerted in time.
The Israeli government backs Trump and applauds the attack
The Israeli government's reaction was immediate. Several of its ministers praised President Donald Trump's decision. Defense Minister Israel Katz spoke of a "historic decision" to neutralize the Iranian nuclear risk. His predecessor, Yoav Gallant, declared that "the Middle East is safer today" thanks to the joint action of the United States and Israel.
Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that Trump “has written his name in gold letters in history.” Even President Isaac Herzog endorsed the offensive, stressing that “this courageous step strengthens the security of the free world.”
International calls to avoid further escalation
From London, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Iran to return to dialogue. “The Iranian nuclear program represents a real threat to global security. It cannot be allowed to progress,” he declared. Starmer called for a diplomatic solution to avoid a larger war.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that the attacks pose a direct threat to international peace. Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that no radiation has been detected outside the attacked facilities, although it will continue to monitor the situation.
Trump breaks 45 years of containment toward Iran
The decision to attack nuclear targets marks a radical departure from US foreign policy. Trump announced the offensive on his social media platform, Truth, reinforcing his direct and personal style. This action leaves behind more than four decades of restraint against Iran and opens a new era of uncertainty in the Middle East.
With this operation, the world's leading power formally enters a conflict that already involves several regional and global actors. While the world's capitals watch with concern, cupaction, Tehran promises to respond “at the time and place it deems appropriate.”
