It also emerged that families receiving SNAP benefits will receive more money this month, but not all of them qualify. Find out who is eligible for the maximum amount.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) began issuing enhanced payments in several states on June 18 as part of the summer seasonal adjustment program. The measure aims to support families whose children no longer receive free school meals during the holidays.
Deposits are being phased in according to each state's schedule, and some households of three could receive up to $768 this month, depending on their financial situation and the availability of additional programs like Summer EBT or SUN Bucks.
Who can receive the maximum of $768
To qualify, a household must meet several criteria: income within federal limits, high deductible expenses (such as rent, utility bills, or childcare), and no other supplemental food assistance. Only then is the full benefit calculated.
States that have activated Summer EBT also offer standalone cards or temporary increases in the value of SNAP benefits for families with school-aged children. This benefit requires no additional paperwork in most cases, as it is automatically applied if enrolled in free school programs.
How to check if you received your June payment
You can check your balance on your state's official app, on the Department of Social Services website, or by calling your EBT card number. If the new amount doesn't appear on your due date, please wait 24 hours. If the problem persists, contact your local office.
There are also free meals without registration.
Beyond the monthly payment, many schools and community centers offer free meals for children during the summer. You can locate the nearest site by texting "FOOD" to 304-304 or visiting the official USDA website. You don't need to register, and using this resource doesn't affect your SNAP balance or count toward income.
