U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a new app for faster and easier entry into the country.
This is Mobile Passport Control (MPC), which aims to modernize the US border control system.
The app is listed as a system for U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and certain international travelers. It also aims to significantly streamline the entry process by combining technology and efficiency.
What are the specific features of Mobile Passport Control?
Through a free mobile app, the MPC allows travelers to upload their information and passport photo. Upon arrival in the United States, MPC users present CBP officers with a QR code generated by the app. Along with this code, they must also present their physical passport.
The best part of this process is that it reduces inspection and waiting time, and allows for faster entry into the country.
For example, a family of up to 12 members can create a single form in MPC. This is because all authorized MPC applications allow a single household to submit an MPC transaction.
We're talking about a system that offers significant benefits for entering North America. In this case, it not only speeds up the entry process, but also offers organized queuing at airports and ports, reducing congestion.
However, it's very important not to confuse the terms: the MPC does not replace the need for a valid passport. It serves as a complement to the identity verification and admission process.
The truth is that the MPC is primarily intended for US citizens and residents. However, some international travelers with B1/B2 visas may use it.
Travelers entering through the Visa Waiver Program with an approved ESTA can also use it.
In this regard, the MPC is currently available at 33 international airports, 11 pre-clearance locations, and 4 seaports of entry.
