The informal foreign exchange market in Cuba dawned today with a new rise in the value of the US dollar.
The US banknote is located in 385 CUP, marking a rise of 3 Cuban pesos compared to the previous day.
Meanwhile, the euro continues to lead as the most expensive currency on the informal market, remaining stable at 425 CUP.
This rise in the dollar occurs in a context of growing economic uncertainty and foreign currency shortages on the island.
Despite the decline recorded in the MLC (Freely Convertible Currency), which fell 5 pesos until the 250 CUP, and the Canadian dollar, which fell 3 pesos to be listed on 262 CUPThe US greenback maintains its upward trend, reflecting strong demand in a supply-constrained environment.
The electronic transfer service Zelle also maintains a high value, trading at 380 CUP, just below the physical dollar, which confirms its widespread use in informal transactions between Cubans and relatives abroad.

Current context and impact
The dollar's rally could be related to recent tensions surrounding U.S. immigration measures and the persistent shortage of basic goods in Cuba, which is fueling a desperate search for foreign currency.
Furthermore, Cuban families continue to rely on informal channels like Zelle and cash remittances to support their loved ones in the face of a steadily deteriorating Cuban peso.
With a minimum wage that continues to hover around 2,100 CUP monthly, the current price of the dollar alone exceeds that amount by just 6 units.
This highlights the critical level of monetary impoverishment among the Cuban population and the lack of access to foreign currency through official channels.
