The 2020-2021 school year will begin in Cuba on September 6, through teleclasses, whose content will be communicated to families and especially to students at the end of this week. The Minister of Education, Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, announced that “it has been considered, in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Health, that students will develop teaching activities, face-to-face, from the time they are vaccinated.”

We know, he said, that the Cuban family is very concerned about the resumption of the 2020-2021 school year. In a meeting held on Monday at the Palace of the Revolution, headed by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, the main theme was to continue the teaching process in the country.

As for higher education, its head, José Ramón Saborido Loidi, spoke of the importance of each university in each area working with the party and government authorities to improve the conditions of educational centers. In this sense, “September and October” will be a period of transition.

Minister Ena Elsa Velázquez explained that the vaccination of students will be carried out in three groups: The first group includes twelfth grade students, third and fourth year of teacher training and third year of technical and vocational training. A second group to vaccinate are students ages 12 to 18. This would include tenth and eleventh graders and the rest of teacher training, technical training and basic secondary education; “but we have also considered with Public Health to include sixth graders.” The third group, he explained, includes primary school students, from preschool to fifth grade.

The minister said a round table was scheduled for Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. “in which we will give details about this information.”
